Woodwell Climate Research Center (formerly 
Woods Hole Research Center), a global leader in studying climate change and developing solutions, has received a grant of $2,500 from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, through its Cultural Investment Portfolio – Project program to support Woodwell Climate’s community speaker series.
This grant signifies that Woodwell Climate provides significant public value through its programs and services. It will help Woodwell Climate continue holding public lectures on a variety of topics related to climate change, educating about 100 people at each event.
Founded in 1985, Woodwell Climate’s mission is to advance science-based climate policies through scientific research and outreach. We conduct field work in ecosystems on the cusp of rapid environmental change, both throughout New England and around the world in places like the Arctic and the Amazon. Recently, Woodwell Climate began working with leading companies in business and finance to understand the commercial and economic ramifications of climate change.
Mass Cultural Council funds reach every community in the Commonwealth. Its mission is to promote excellence, education, access and diversity in the arts, humanities and sciences, to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the vitality of our communities and economy. Mass Cultural Council has a budget of $15.7 million, including an appropriation of nearly $14 million from the state of Massachusetts and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and other sources. The agency also runs the Mass Cultural Facilities Fund in partnership with MassDevelopment.
