Take a Stand for Climate

In 2025, Woodwell Climate Research Center is marking a significant milestone—40 years of working to curb climate change and develop science-based solutions to help communities cope with its devastating impacts.

In honor of Earth Day on April 22, and our 40th anniversary, we’re asking members of the Woodwell community to take a stand for climate by introducing Woodwell and our work to four friends and encouraging them to join you in supporting climate science for change.

Help us spread the word! The toolkit below has everything you need to get started. We encourage you to add your own personal touch—what connects you to Woodwell Climate and our vision of a healthy, equitable, and sustainable world?

  • Climate change is real, it’s here, and you’ve probably already experienced its consequences. From infrastructure-damaging extreme storms, to record drought, wildfires, severe flooding, and warming temperatures, the reality is today’s climate is already creating unlivable conditions for communities across the United States and the world, threatening lives and livelihoods, and costing the U.S. economy billions.
  • Woodwell Climate Research Center has been working for 40 years to conduct cutting-edge climate research, work with leaders to translate climate science into policy, and partner with frontline communities to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change.
  • Woodwell Climate has been at the forefront of working to curb the impacts of climate change. In 1992, they helped draft and launch the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Members of Woodwell’s staff and Board were recognized as contributors to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. More recently, in 2022, they partnered with the COP26 UK Presidency to assess climate risk efforts in G20 nations.
  • Woodwell Climate’s work spans the globe, focusing on the natural systems with the potential to make or break our climate future—from thawing Arctic permafrost, to threatened tropical forests, and intensifying extreme weather.
  • The world-class researchers at Woodwell partner with leaders and communities to identify and fill critical information gaps, generate actionable insights, and co-develop just, meaningful strategies to address the climate crisis.
  • I’m standing up for our climate this Earth Day by supporting Woodwell Climate Research Center and their work to curb climate change and develop science-based solutions to help communities cope with its devastating impacts. Join me! woodwellclimate.org/onward
  • Now more than ever, action is needed to curb climate change. That’s why I’m proud to support Woodwell Climate Research Center and their work. Join me in supporting them. woodwellclimate.org/onward
  • I’m doing my part for a safe and stable climate by supporting the important work of Woodwell Climate Research Center. Let’s make a difference together. Join me and be part of Woodwell’s efforts. woodwellclimate.org/onward

[Salutation],

Now more than ever, I think it is important for us to do our part for a safe and stable climate. This is truly a critical decade for humanity. A report recently released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) noted that our actions in this decade will “largely determine” what happens in the centuries to come. So now is the time to act!

That’s why I am proud to support Woodwell Climate Research Center, and I hope you will be inspired to do the same.

For 40 years, Woodwell has been conducting cutting-edge climate research, working with leaders to translate climate science into policy, and partnering with frontline communities to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change. Their work spans the globe, focusing on the natural systems with the potential to make or break our climate future, and you can find Woodwell scientists in the field everywhere from the Arctic tundra to the equatorial tropics.

Woodwell is committed to ensuring that policy and decision-making at every level are informed by world-class climate research. This combination of cutting-edge science and a focus on impacts sets Woodwell apart from other organizations.

Please consider supporting Woodwell in honor of Earth Day on April 22 and their 40th anniversary this year. You can learn more about their work at woodwellclimate.org or make a secure online gift at woodwellclimate.org/onward.

I’m standing strong for a safe and stable climate. I hope you will join me!
