Statement on racial injustice

Black lives matter. We must do more.

Members of the staff, leadership, and board of Woodwell Climate Research Center (formerly Woods Hole Research Center) are outraged and grieved by the racial injustice and violence that continues to face Black, Indigenous, and all People of Color. Black lives matter, and we stand with those seeking an end to the systemic racism that has been an underpinning of this country since its founding.

In our own work, we recognize that systemic racism manifests itself in many ways, including in the disproportionate impacts of climate change, fossil fuel pollution, and environmental degradation on communities of color. Woodwell Climate Research Center is committed to working with leaders across all sectors of society and levels of government to find and support just, science-based climate solutions that address these disparities.

We acknowledge that we must, and affirm that we will, do more to increase diversity within our organization, and to build an equitable and inclusive community. Words are not enough. We commit ourselves—our time and our resources—to this work.
