Woodwell Climate @ COP28

We’re convening critical conversations at the nexus of climate, people, and nature.

Connect with us.

We’ve been a central voice in the climate conversation since the beginning. In fact, we helped start it. Our founder, Dr. George Woodwell testified at the first Congressional hearing on climate change. He and the Center’s early staff played integral roles in the creation of both the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change—the scientific body and treaty that underpin international climate negotiations.

We have been at every COP, and this year, we’re gearing up for our most substantial presence ever. We’ll be convening partners and policymakers from around the world for nine days of conversations that accelerate progress and move us toward urgently needed solutions. The momentum starts with our open house (Nov. 30) and welcome reception (Dec. 1).

OUR EVENTS AT COP28

You can find us at our meeting and presentation space: Zone B7, Building 87, Opportunity District, Thematic Area 4 (see map).

Our Issues

  1. Ambition: Calling for greater ambition and accelerated implementation to curb the increasingly devastating impacts of climate change and shape an equitable, sustainable climate future.
  2. Permafrost: Working to integrate the best available science on permafrost thaw emissions into the Global Stocktake and other policy mechanisms to ensure realistic carbon budgets.
  3. Justice & Adaptation: Amplifying Indigenous voices and calling on negotiators to operationalize Loss and Damage and make good on climate finance commitments.
  4. Forests: Partnering with land stewards and policymakers to develop just, effective strategies to protect tropical forests that are currently preventing at least 1°C of global warming.
  5. Carbon markets: Leveraging science to bolster transparency and integrity of voluntary carbon markets as a critical funding source for community-led natural climate solutions.
